POSITION PROFILE:

The Office of Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden is seeking a grant manager with a
strong commitment to teamwork and public service to join our team as a grants manager. The
Grants Manager is responsible for researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant
proposals/reports that support the Suffolk County District Attorney Office’s (SCDAO) goals and
meet funder guidelines and criteria. This person serves as the primary grant writer, manages
funder relationships, engages in compliance reporting, and supports special project initiatives.
This position requires strong writing, data analysis, program budgeting, project management
skills, with an emphasis on outcome measurement.

Per SCDAO’s vaccine mandate, as a condition of employment, successful applicants will be
required to have received COVID-19 vaccination or an approved exemption as of their start date.
Details on demonstrating compliance with this requirement will be provided to applicants selected
for employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Lead grant proposal development and submission—preparing and organizing materials
for proposals, and submitting and monitoring grant applications
• Identify grant opportunities that are aligned with SCDAO mission, values, services,
programs, and initiatives
• Maintaining and building relationships with funders and other strategic partners on a
local, state, and national level
• Drafting proposals/LOIs, grant application narratives, and budgets and collaborate to
finalize with program staff, finance, Chief of Staff, Human Resources, and District
Attorney
• Conduct start-up meetings to orient staff to their grant management roles, including a
review of policies and procedures, to ensure that all projects will successfully pass all
program and fiscal audits
• Maintaining database/tracking of grant materials and support documents
• Maintain grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurement and grant
budgets—taking responsibility for meeting high standards of effectiveness, timeliness,
and completeness
• Provide guidance in the development of sub-recipient agreements
• Become familiar with the grant terms and conditions delineated in the grant solicitation,
grant regulations, and the project proposal
• Work with appropriate departments within SCDAO to implement the program/projects
• Provide leadership for the project among grant partners
• Become familiar with the allowable and unallowable costs for the grant and the
conditions for making changes to the budget
• Monitor and maintain copies of all expenditure-related paperwork (hiring, purchase
requisitions, conference request forms, mileage reimbursement, timesheets, status change
forms, etc.) to document the accuracy of charges to the grant, which is needed to
withstand an audit review
• Researching statistics, trends and data for grant proposals

OTHER DUTIES:

• Attend required training and other trainings relevant to Office functions
• Attend required supervision and staff meetings regularly
• Become familiar with and follow the provisions of the Office Personnel Policies
• Become familiar and model conformance with the Massachusetts Rules of Professional
Conduct
• Exercise respectful and professional behavior and communication with the public,
judicial and law enforcement personnel, and office staff
• Complete work assignments in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
• Other related duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree (or 3-7 years of work experience with grant writing, grant
administration, and/or management)
• 3+ years of experience in fund development, grant writing or grants management
• Demonstrated analytical and persuasive writing skills experience as well as superior
editing skills, including ability to convey complex information in a clear manner to a
diverse audience
• Strong administrative skills and self-motivated with the ability to set priorities and
manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision in effective and efficient manner
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to deadlines while maintaining quality
• Demonstrated interest in the public sector and mission of Suffolk County District
Attorney’s Office
• Strong desire to work in a collegial and team-focused environment
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and workplace etiquette
• Strong personal character, integrity, and judgment
• Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred:
• Familiarity and experience working with local, state, national, and governmental agencies
• Intermediate to expert skills in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel and
PowerPoint)
• Experience working in, or with, the legislative budgeting process, particularly in
Massachusetts.
• Experience with state accounting and payroll applications.
• Fluency or Conversational Abilities in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cantonese or Mandarin,
Chinese, Portuguese, or Cape Verdean Creole.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to lift boxes weighing 10-20 pounds
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time

TRAVEL:

Frequent travel to the Supreme Judicial Court, Appeals Court, and Superior Court, as well as
occasional travel to other trial courts within Suffolk County and the Commonwealth may be
required. Travel to community partners may also be required.
