Employee in this position will have significant municipal law and litigation experience. The Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (DPA) must adhere to the highest ethical standards at all times and consistently exercise sound judgment. This attorney is responsible for giving legal advice to elected county officials and appointed department heads. He or she represents Island County and county officials in court and before administrative law bodies. He or she may draft legal opinions, ordinances and contracts for county clients. He or she must be able to provide forthright and understandable advice to county officials, while being sensitive to non-legal issues that may be of concern to them. Superior written and oral communication skills are essential. The Chief Civil DPA is part of the prosecutor’s office management team and provides the elected prosecutor with counsel on all matters affecting the functioning of the office.
