Job Description

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney is currently seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney II. This position will be responsible for preparing charging documents, reviews evidentiary documents, issues subpoenas, interviews and prepares witnesses, performs legal research, responds to pre-trial and post-trial motions. Conducts trial strategy. Coordinates with victim-witness case manager. Represents the Commonwealth in adjudications/trials, sentencing hearings, probation violation hearings, show cause hearings, etc. In addition, they will manage a misdemeanor and felony caseload. Evaluates and screens cases for disposal in District Court or indictment in Circuit Court.

Salary Commensurate with Experience.

$100,000-$139,845.75

Job Requirements Requires a Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from an accredited law school and two (2) years of related work experience as a licensed practicing attorney; license to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Special Requirements Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia. Must be a member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar (ability to obtain a waiver of admission within a reasonable time is also acceptable, but should not exceed four (4) months). Continue legal education annually.
