The Solicitor’s Office is Presently Seeking an Assistant Solicitor for the Third Judicial Circuit

Examples of Work Performed: The Third Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s office prosecutes criminal offenses in General Sessions Court for Sumter, Lee, Clarendon, and Williamsburg Counties. Provides prosecution of criminal cases, which involves trial preparation, plea agreements, hearings, court filings and jury trials; prepares necessary reports; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens. Assists the Solicitor with planning, coordinating, and supervising all administrative and legal activities of the Solicitor’s office, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Maintains and manages individual caseloads in a timely and efficient manner. Notifies victims and other parties of trial dates. Prepares cases for plea or trial. Performs extensive legal research. Presents and argues prepared cases in court as assigned. Examines legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits. Recommends criminal prosecutions or civil penalties. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has thorough knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies. Has knowledge of general court procedures. Is able to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision. Is able to read and interpret legal documents, law enforcement reports, financial documents, codes of law and related materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job. Has good organizational, technical, and human relations skills. Has thorough knowledge of modern office practices, equipment, and technology. Is able to maintain records accurately and with confidentiality. Is capable of working under stressful conditions.
Minimum Requirements: Juris Doctorate degree. Current South Carolina Bar Admission and Certification. Legal experience preferred, but willing to train and support recent graduates. Must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
