The Office of the District Attorney Fifth Judicial District is looking for a dedicated professional felony prosecutor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have consistently demonstrated the experience and competence necessary to prosecute complex felony cases. Our mission is to fairly uphold and enforce the laws of the State of Colorado, and to seek justice in all cases. Attorneys will perform professional legal work in the prosecution of cases in either Eagle, Summit, Clear Creek or Lake County courts, acting on behalf of the District Attorney and representing the People of the State of Colorado.

This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site and remote as job duties require.  Work hours will be Monday through Friday, with typical hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  This full-time position has a starting annual salary of 85,000 DOE.  We also offer a generous benefits package, on – going trainings / continuing education.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to seeking justice, preserving community safety and making the criminal justice system better
  • Perform the duties of a District Court felony prosecutor, including preparing and conducting jury trials on felony offenses of varying levels of complexity.
  • Maintain a caseload of felony cases and perform all necessary duties to shepherd the cases through the criminal justice system, including making appropriate plea offers, working with victims, preparing witnesses, collaborating with law enforcement and interacting with defense attorneys.
  • Present evidence, argue motions of suppression and other legal motions, and litigate all stages of a jury trial from jury selection to closing statement.
  • Performs legal research as needed for the proper prosecution of felony cases
  • Represent the District Attorney using professionalism and integrity in dealing with court officials, witnesses, members of the legal community and the general public.
  • Establish, nurture and improve relationships between the District Attorney’s Office and the community.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL, OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the duties, powers, limitations and authorities of the District Attorney’s Office and related law enforcement or criminal justice agencies
  • Experience prosecuting felony cases from their inception to jury trial, sentencing and post-conviction litigation
  • Skill in courtroom presentation
  • Knowledge of criminal law and procedure, rules of evidence, and advanced principles of litigation, trial and hearing procedures
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional standards and/or federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations
  • Commitment to working collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently to meet statutory deadlines
  • Ability to learn and utilize computer case management software programs
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, court officials, law enforcement and the community.

Experience:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Four (4) years minimum experience as prosecuting attorney in the State of Colorado or another State is required.
  • Prior felony prosecution experience is required
  • Must be a licensed attorney permitted to practice law in the State of Colorado
