As the jury selection process continues, the Parkland shooter’s public defenders were denied a motion to withdraw prompted by one of their lawyers becoming sick with COVID-19. The defense has also moved to suspend the trial indefinitely because the Uvalde shooting has reawakened community emotions surrounding the Parkland shooting.

Arizona inmate Frank Atwood’s execution is scheduled for Wednesday, but he has launched multiple last minute appeals. A federal judge has denied one of these appeals, which alleged that due to Atwood’s spinal condition, lethal injection would be cruelly painful.

A death penalty hearing will begin for a woman charged with the homicide of her grandson. If the state is successful in pursuing the death penalty, the defendant will be the first woman executed in Montana.
