Animal Cruelty Prosecution Project Intern

About Us

This position will work directly with the Animal Cruelty Prosecution Project. This Project provides prosecutors and allied professionals with the necessary resources and training to adequately prosecute animal cruelty and fighting cases. APA works with an advisory council of leading national experts to develop innovative publications and an annual conference on issues regarding animal cruelty prosecution.

 

Position Description

The ideal intern has an interest in criminal justice, specifically in prosecution of animal cruelty.  The legal intern would be responsible for conducting various research requested by attorneys and assisting on projects as needed.  Projects may include assisting in the drafting of amicus briefs, editing and possibly contributing to Association newsletters, and preparing materials for national prosecutor conferences and trainings.  Other duties may include drafting documents and updating or maintaining media or social media outlets.

 

Requirements:

Applicant should be a current college or law student.  Candidate must possess keen research and legal analysis skills preferably with experience or interest in a government or prosecutor’s office.  Other non-profit or policy experience is also desirable.

Smart Prosecution Intern

This position will work directly with the Smart Prosecution Project. The Smart Prosecution model builds off lessons learned from U.S. DOJ’s Bureau of Justice Assistance’s “Smart Suite” of crime-fighting programs.  Smart Prosecution is designed to promote effective, data-driven, research-based strategies for prosecution and prosecutor-led justice system reforms. The Smart Prosecution Initiative pairs an operational, results-focused researcher with a prosecutor’s office for the development of data-driven solutions to create effective, efficient, and fair prosecution strategies to improve public safety.

Spring 2017 Graphic Design/Marketing Intern

Exciting opportunity for a creative graphic artist and marketing intern. The ideal candidate will be able to handle diverse graphic design and marketing assignments for a dedicated and policy-involved nonprofit organization . You will be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of marketing and advertising campaigns for print and online and maintaining promotional materials. Other duties may include maintaining databases; supporting proposal efforts, including some editing and providing some market research assistance. 

General Description of Duties:

1.    Support the Creative Department in developing graphics and layouts for print ads, flyers, email newsletters, website, blog, and social media accounts (e.g., Facebook and Twitter). 

2.    Support efforts for tracking business opportunities using a variety of internal and external tools.

3.    Assist with identifying marketing materials, update content, and ensure brand compliance.

4.    Establish and maintain electronic and physical inventory of marketing materials, including promotional items, brochures, posters, signage, etc.

5.    Support various phases of proposal development coordination such as data collection, analysis, production and delivery; maintain and update proposal templates and formats; and maintain and update systems, tools and resources for proposal creation.

6.    Review and maintain company information databases and subscriptions to procurement/contract services. 

7.    Support the development and publishing of company news releases.

8.    Support internal marketing and business development meetings. Responsibilities may include meeting scheduling, agenda preparation, read-ahead material dissemination, meeting minutes, etc.  

9.    Provide assistance with the coordination and overall planning and execution of tradeshows and marketing events.

10.  Support other business development and marketing communications needs as required.

11. Maintain Social media accounts on a daily basis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Junior or senior college student with a major in graphic design, marketing, business, or related field. Recent college graduates welcome. 

Experience: Experience working on graphic design projects for school or professional environment       

Skills: Strong organizational skills. An attention to detail a must! Ability to work in a fast paced environment with short turnaround times. Ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously.  Ability to operate independently and communicate effectively with internal staff, as well as external customers. Advanced word processing and spreadsheet computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.         

Unique Requirements: Practical experience with graphic software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, etc. Some experience with WordPress or other content management systems is a plus. Some local travel may be required.
