Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - A new committee focused on bringing changes to correctional programs in Chippewa county was formed today. The criminal justice collaborating council met for the first time. They hope to follow the lead of Eau Claire County, and were joined by Tiana Glenna from Eau Claire's council. "We're looking at ways in which we can benefit both the citizens in the county from a financial standpoint, but also from a public safety standpoint as well." Tuesday marked the first meeting of the new Chippewa County Criminal Justice collaborating council. The committee was formed to get jail inmates in programs they need, like parenting classes and behavioral therapy. Along with a subcommittee, they hope new guidelines limit the number of repeat offenders. "We're trying to involve a variety of community members on the subcommittee. So it's just not going to be made up of government people, but people from the public that will be able to better understand and influence the policies that we adopt," said Chippewa County Administrator Frank Pascarella. The group's goal could lead to fewer people behind bars, which might make some citizens nervous.
