Michigan Area Law Enforcement Build Relationship with Students through Sports, Education
Doug Hornung lifted the trophy high as his Livingston Educational Service Agency Adult Transition Warriors defeated the Livingston County Law Enforcement bowling team Monday in their annual game. The match, played at Howell Bowl-E-Drome, pitted about 30 LESA Warriors against about 20 members of the law enforcement team, comprised of past and current members of the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, prosecutor's office, 911 Central Dispatch and Michigan State Police. "They were fired up to win the trophy back," Warriors Coach Larry Prout said. "We have good bowlers. ..." The annual game was created by Luzod and retired LESA coach Bob Steinkamp, a former adult transition teacher for LESA, Livingston County's intermediate school district. Steinkamp retired in 2006 after teaching for 37 years in special education. Luzod and Steinkamp were looking for a way to connect the two groups by competing in sports for a common goal. Prout said the law enforcement team also spends time in the classroom teaching the LESA students about Michigan's justice system.
